Jon Cryer-Mike O'Malley comedy gets NBC series order

NBC is adding to its comedy roster.

The network has placed a series order to creator Mike O’Malley ( Survivor’s Regret , Snowpiercer ) and star and executive producer Jon Clare . Untitled series likely to premiere in – TV season is second Season – NBC’s loop pick-up in recent months: In July, the broadcaster ordered a series of missing persons episodes FOUND .

This show from Lionsgate TV and Universal TV centers on Jim (Cryer) and Julia (Abigail Spencer ), they went through an amicable divorce and decided to continue raising their children at home while taking turns living with them. When Trey (Donald Faison), owner of Jim’s favorite sports team, enters the picture and wins Julia’s heart. Finn Sweeney and Sofia Capanna also star.

The series marks the return of Cryer to multicam comedy, who won two Emmys during his time on CBS Hero . He most recently played Lex Luthor on The CW’s Supergirl . Mad Men and Eternal Alumnus Spencer on ABC Grey’s Anatomy . Faison (Scrubs) on the CW shelved reality show Powerpuff Girls Professor Utonium piloted and reappeared in the second season of Showtime The L Word: Generation Q .

O’Malley, whose writing and production credits include Starz’s Heels and Survivor’s Remorse and ShowtimeShameless will serve as showrunners. He executive produces alongside two real-life sports owners — Tom Werner of the Boston Red Sox and Wyke Grossbeck of the Boston Celtics — Cryer, Emilia Fazzalari and George Geyer.

The series joins the comedy NBC roster, which includes Returnees Young Rock, American Auto and Grand Crew and Rookie Lopez and Lopez and Night court .
