Josh Dallas on 'Manifest' Ending and Its Future: 'There's Significant Sequel or Spinoff Potential'

Missing Plane Drama Manifest It’s been a hell of a ride. First came NBC’s now-infamous cancellation, followed by months of uncertainty over the show’s remaining two seasons, before culminating at the last minute, 05 – Netflix’s order of episodes. The second half of the brief final season will be available to stream on June 2 — right in the middle of the WGA strike, which banned its prolific writer and showrunner Jeff Lake from promoting the series.

Luckily, star Josh Dallas (plays Flight 828 Passenger Ben Stone will appear with the rest of the cast at the ATX Television Festival on June 1) is Take the baton. He was interviewed by THR – in New York with his wife, actress Ginnifer Goodwin, and their two young children in Los Angeles Had a great time at home – about the Manifest finale and the status of future dramas.

How did you react to the plot of the last episode of the show?

I’ve had a deal with Jeff from the start and I don’t want to know how it’s going to end, so when we read the final table I was crying all the time. It’s double, right? It’s bittersweet as we say goodbye to these characters and the world, but also to the TV family we’ve created, the crew and everyone who’s worked with us over the past five years. It was charged. But as far as the ending goes, Jeff knew from the beginning how he wanted the story to end.

What kind of emotional resolution would you like your character to have?

I hope he learns from his experience and is able to re-do things with a new perspective. If there’s a sequel to the last scene, I hope he goes forward with the knowledge and tools to take life as a gift.

So you envision a reboot or sequel scenario? Maybe like “Side Flash” on Lost

?

I think there is significant sequel or spinoff potential here. Maybe we go into the future and meet Eden [his character] at 563 daughter] around as she is traveling the world, or we follow young passengers. Maybe we go back to 1000 and dig deeper with [NSA Director] Vance. Dallas with Athena Karkanis, who plays his wife, Grace Stone, on Manifest.

Once upon a time, can you imagine booking another show with- plus episodes?

I’ve been very lucky so far. I definitely think the days of shows running for five to seven seasons are coming to an end, and there are pros and cons to that. It’s a shame we’re losing the longevity that doesn’t exist in other media, the ability to explore the evolution of characters and stories. The shorter seasons, on the other hand, allow for concise and brilliant storytelling.

Is there anything I can get from Appears Canceled by NBC and picked up by Netflix?

I honestly don’t think there’s much you can do to connect with people other than try to do the best thing possible and hope for it. Once Upon a Time and Manifest are similar in their genre viewers, always the greatest TV viewers, because They are passionate about their show. That’s a big part of why we’re coming back. I wish there was a formula. If anyone knows, please comment below. ( laughing .) Dallas with Athena Karkanis, who plays his wife, Grace Stone, on Manifest.

Did you feel extra during the Jeff Rake strike Publicity pressure?

Of course there is a sense of responsibility because I want to do the right thing by Jeff and celebrate the show the way it should, But at the same time, I want to support Jeff and all of our writers in this negotiation and what they’re going through. No pressure, though, just joy and gratitude to speak of. If I screw up, we’ll have to call him after the strike.
