Ultimately, Steinbrenner made the decision to match the San Francisco offer, calling Judge directly while on vacation in Italy and asking, “Would you like Be a Yankee?” When Judge answered “yes,” Steinbrenner offered a ninth year and a deal that gave Judges a happy Hawaiian vacation.
