“I’m 100% convinced that Islam will not rule Charles, that’s all,” Ghatje said. “I don’t know how to explain it, that’s how I feel. Last time [I fought], I fought with [ Oliveira] stepped in together, there was no way. It’s going to be a great fight. Justin Gaethje also thinks that Makachev will struggle to finish Oliveira as effortlessly as in previous fights. And having played against a former champion before, it’s hard not to be confident and smart to digest the “highlights”.
“I think Charles is going forward, Islam will try, and in the end, he may succeed,” he said. “If he was, he would have won, but I don’t think he would have exhausted him. Even if he beat him in the first two rounds, I didn’t see Charles getting committed, nor did I see him too tired to continue him A fight that needs to be fought.”
So far, Gaethje has fought for the lightweight title twice in his UFC fights. He has also fought some of the best fighters the sport has to offer, including Dustin Poirier, Michael Chandler and Eddie Alvarez.
