Last night in Los Angeles, Who’s Who in Hollywood came out for the first 2nd Academy Museum Gala. The glittering superstars celebrated the museum’s work to preserve film history — and paraded the red carpet in all their haute couture. But one of the most striking looks of the night came from her own fashion phenomenon: 21-year-old model Kaia Gerber.
Skinny black Alaïa suit—comprised of a draped skirt and sheer turtleneck—debuted in spring by the brand’s creative director, Pieter Mulier Appeared on the show 92 Collection for July. (When working with stylist Danielle Goldberg, Gerber wore no jewelry, and her hair was styled in simple waves.) But as striking as Gerber’s tasteful minimalist look was her resemblance to another of her decades ago. One Alaïa muse bears a striking resemblance: her own mother, Cindy Crawford.

The whole post ‘s and earlier ’02, Crawford is often seen on the runways in Paris modeling for the brand’s founder, Azzedine Alaïa, often wearing the designer’s signature all-black bodysuit Its influence is acutely felt in Muriel’s work today. (Crawford and Gerber also apparently share a shared appreciation for Alaïa, having attended the opening of an exhibition in Paris dedicated to his work last year together.) Still, while Gerber’s look last night might not just fit” 21, with her minimalist looks and casual spirit, she made herself feel the moment — and it was all her own.
