Kansas legalizes sports betting

Kansas residents have reason to celebrate.

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly tweeted Thursday that the state’s four state-owned casinos will be allowed to accept sports betting starting Sept. 1. 1.

This announcement comes a few weeks before the football season begins, so sports fans in the state will have the opportunity to place bets on all NFL games this season starting September 8. “My constituents need fun. They need something fun,” State Representative Stephanie Clayton, who helped legalize sports betting in the state, told the Kansas City Star. “They deserve it, God knows they’ve won it.”

Indeed, Kansas residents will have fun as they can choose to invest in sporting events as an alternative to the more volatile stock market.

It is unclear how the state will distribute the revenue generated. However, rumor has it that the extra state revenue could be used to lure professional sports teams to states without MLB, NFL or NBA teams in the state. Major League Soccer Kansas City Sports plays in Kansas City.

As outlined by the American Gaming Association, sports betting is legal in 30 states, and six more states (including Kansas) are working to become fully operational. Massachusetts is on track to become the 31st state to legalize sports betting.

Shocking monthly sports betting revenue report strongly supports the desire of state officials across the country to pass legislation to legalize sports betting. Last month, it was reported that New York led the nation in sports betting, surpassing $1 billion for the sixth consecutive month.
