Ken Walker III, Damien Lewis inactive in Seahawks vs Broncos headlines in opener

The Seahawks will be without rookie running back Ken Walker III and starting guard Damian Lewis in Monday night’s opener against the Broncos after practice was restricted throughout the week.

Walker, the second Michigan State first-round pick, has been sidelined since going through an undisclosed procedure following the Seattle preseason finale. The team hopes he has a chance to get dressed in Week 1, listing him as problematic in Saturday’s final injury report, but he will have to wait for his NFL debut.

Without Walker available, veterans DeeJay Dallas and Travis Homer should see an uptick in offense behind starter Rashaad Penny. Receiver Penny Hart has also had previous experience playing in the backcourt when needed as an insurance policy.

Less than a month after a sprained ankle in Seattle’s second exhibition game loss to Chicago, Lewis was limited for the entire week. Although he has made good progress, it is clearly not enough to give the team confidence in his starting lineup, and fourth-year guard Phil Haynes will replace him in the starting lineup.

In the minor, the Seahawks will be without cornerback Arti Burns, who missed a month with a persistent groin injury in one-on-one practices at training camp. Freshman Isaiah Dunn, who was waived by the Jets last month, will be a healthy catcher.

Ending Week 1 with inactive players, long snapper Tyler Otter will be replaced by promoted Carson Tinker from the practice squad, which was announced earlier in the week After a shoulder injury during practice. Despite his preseason stellar performance, defensive tackle Myles Adams won’t play an odd role on a deep, talented interior defensive line.
