Kenan Thompson, Bowen Yang and Mikey Day on 'Saturday Night Live' Cast Overhaul: 'You Just Keep Moving'

Before Saturday Night Live season premiere , the late-night comedy show lost eight cast members in the biggest casting shakeup in a generation .

At the end of the season 23 May, Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney and Pete Davidson signed the sketch series for the last time. After they left, Alex Moffat, Melissa Villaseñor and Aristotle Athari left in the summer and finally, Chris Redd in September.

“I really miss my friends and see them every week, but all our new cast members are super cool,” Day told THR. “[It] felt like you bonded pretty quickly on that show. In the summer, you’d be like, ‘We’re going to have a new kid. Will it be the same? But a few Days later, you’re like, ‘Oh, well, it’s this show again.’ So you know, it’s fun. Every season, you just keep going. You just throw yourself into it, and everything starts to feel like a show.’ “

As for the new members, joining SNL was an emotional experience and they’ve learned a lot from it. Walker noted that about once a week, he would “foggy” about the fact that he was on the show. He also gets a helpful piece of advice that there’s always another episode, so it’s not worth taking anything to heart.

“The words I have always believed in are patience and work,” Hernandez told THR. “And I love that Kenan and Colin [Jost] are there, they’re veterans who talk to you and give you good advice. So yeah, I appreciate that.”
