Kevin Durant trade request timeline: Superstar scorer returns to Nets

Kevin Durant made a trade request to the Brooklyn Nets on June 30 to officially enter the trade market for one of the greatest players in NBA history. Durant is about to start a new four-year extension that will pay him $194 million during the deal.

Durant reportedly has two teams on his list of preferred destinations: the Miami Heat and the Phoenix Suns. In last year’s playoffs, each team earned the top seed in their respective divisions but failed to advance to the NBA Finals.

Durant has now waived his trade request. He will return to the Brooklyn Nets to start the season.

Rumors that Durant could leave the Nets started when the team refused to offer Kyrie Irving the long-term max contract he was looking for. Instead, Irving opted for the final year of a $36 million deal with Brooklyn. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Durant asked the Nets to make a trade because they would not give Irving the contract he was seeking.

The Nets were the overwhelming favorites to the championship last season. Then Irving was out for most of a year after refusing a Covid-19 vaccine, James Harden asked for a trade and was sent to the Philadelphia 76ers, Joe Harris suffered a season-ending injury, and the Nets – Duran Ter and Irving on the floor – swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round.

Brooklyn basically owes all future draft picks to the Houston Rockets, don’t expect the Nets to be in this deal because of the original Harden trade Seek a full rebuild.

We are following every Durant trade rumor in this article until he is eventually traded. You can bet on his next destination on DraftKings Sportsbook in AZ, CO, IL, LA, NH, ON, OR, WV and WY.

More info from Windhorst:

” The Nets are really being offered by what they have and if some of the trade offers presented to me are real, I agree with them. I think they should expect more from Kevin Durant because his contract is still Four years left. But the rest of the league, they just don’t believe the Nets have a lot of leverage here, even though Durant has four years left on his contract. The offers they made reflect that belief.”

Windhorst: No bidding war for Kevin Durant

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst says teams have made trade offers for Kevin Durant , don’t feel the need to keep improving them. Woj: Nets can keep Durant and Irving in offseason

From Network Daily:

“And they don’t have to trade,” Woj added. “They both have contracts. They could get them to restart the season. I don’t think that’s an ideal situation for Brooklyn. I think it’s trying to find as many assets as possible, but again, there’s more to this offseason. Lots of time, and more negotiations to come.”

Kevin Durant just wants to be in Butler, Playing for the Heat with Adebayo and Lowry still in place

From Athlete:

As for the possibility of Miami also seems to be in play, I’m told there are significant hurdles on that front. It looks like Durant just wants to play with a Heat team that includes Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo and Kyle Lowry. So, even if the Heat were willing to trade Butler to meet the Nets’ (understandably expensive) demands, doing so would leave Durant unhappy from the start.

“Furthermore, the Nets have no interest in admitting Kyrie Irving. They have no interest in doing that. If that were to happen, it could be Will do a three-team trade or a four-team trade to get the Nets happy with what they want. Getting them maybe a start. Picking the picks from Phoenix and relocating them somewhere else…Kyrie Could be thrown into a four-team trade like salary ballast. He’s going to be used as a tool to help the Nets. He’s not going to be used by a player for value. You’re unlikely to get any Something of value. Maybe a pick or two . And he will not be used to accommodate.

“Whether it takes three days or three weeks, he’s going to have to sit back and wait for the Durant situation to end. That’s the reality of it. But in the end, when it all blows up, he can really be a Laker. That’s definitely still on the table.”
