Khabib Nurmagomedov explains why he won’t sign former teammate Luke Rockhold to Eagle FC.
Nurmagomedov, 33, officially retired from the UFC back in March 2021 with a perfect 29-0 record. Khabib is the longest-reigning UFC lightweight champion, holding the title from April 2018 to March 2021.
The Eagles continued to buy the Gorilla Fighting Championship (GFC) and renamed it the Eagle Fighting Championship (EFC) in Miami, Florida. As Eagle FC’s founder and MMA promoter, Nurmagomedov decides who he signs up for promotions.
Luke Rockhold (16-6 MMA), who recently announced his retirement from the UFC after a loss, went to Paul in the co-main event at UFC 278 last Saturday night, August 20. Costa (14-2 MMA).

While talking to ‘Red Horn MMA’, Khabib had this to say (h/t MMANews) when asked if Luke Rockhold could possibly join his promotion:
“I don’t think so. (Rockhold) is the Strikeforce champ. He’s the UFC champ. He has nothing to prove here, I trust him No more fighting.”
Nurmagomedov and Rockhold were former AKA (American Taekwondo Academy) teammates.
