LAS VEGAS – Khamzat Chimaev sees no reason to play against Paulo Costa.
Earlier this week, Chimaev (11-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) got involved in a brawl with Costa at the UFC acting academy and Chimaev had to be stopped by his team.
Costa (13-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC), who has one fight left in the UFC trade, wants to settle with Chimayev, but “Boz” isn’t interested .
“Why (I’m fighting him)?” Chimaev told reporters, including MMA Junkie, at UFC 279 media day on Wednesday. “I don’t fight with that guy. Someone already fucked him up.
“Israel (Adesanya) fucked his ass. so what? The whole world saw that shit. He has to go back and do something simple. “
Chimaev was referring to Costa’s loss to middleweight champion Adesanya in a title fight at UFC 257 when he was stopped and taunted after the fight.
Costa accused Chimaev of being scared, but Chimaev turned a deaf ear to his confrontation with the Brazilian.
“(It’s) nothing – he’s talking my bullshit,” Chimaev said. “I never talked about that person – maybe once or anything. He wants to be famous now. “
Chimaev returned for Saturday’s UFC 279 Main Event when he met Nate Diaz (20-13 MMA, 15-11 UFC) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas ).The main card is pay-per-view after ESPNews’ preliminaries and ESPN+’s early preliminaries.
