Krista Vernoff is expanding into streaming.
Grey’s Anatomy showrunner with Octavia Spencer Collaborative adaptation of Ashley Elston’s upcoming novel First Lie Wins as 19 Hulu . The show, which landed on Hulu and ABC Signature after a bidding war, is currently in development for streaming.
First Lie Wins has been described as a cat-and-mouse thriller with twists and turns. Elston preemptively sold the title to Pamela Dorman Books. It is planned for early publication 2023.
Vernoff and Meghann Plunkett are both set to write the script. First Lie Wins marks the reunion of Vernoff and Plunkett, who is currently on Grey’s Anatomy
Written by Spin-off Station 19 and was a staff member on the former’s short-lived ABC drama Rebel.
Executive producers include Vernoff, Plunkett, Spencer and her Orit collaborators Brian Clisham and Stephanie Kluft . Author Elston will also executive produce alongside Vernoff’s husband and Trip the Light Productions partner Alexandre Schmitt. Andrew Stearn, who also executive produced Rebel and produced with Vernoff Showtime Shameless , will also perform production.
Vernoff and her Trip the Light banner are based on ABC Signature with a rich overall deal. She is currently the host of Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 . First Lie Wins marks her first anchor project. Vernoff and Trip the Light are endorsed by UTA and Hansen Jacobson.
Plunkett, except at Station 19 and Rebel is an award-winning poet. She is a writer-in-residence at the Omega Institute and serves as a poetry reader for The New Yorker. She is represented by CAA and attorney Barry Littman.

Elston has written young adult novels, including The Disappearing Rules and 10 Blind date. First Lie Wins is her first adult novel. She was replaced by CAA and Sterling Lord Literistic.
