Long absences are nothing new for Davis, who only played in 40 games last season , played only 36 games in the 2020-21 season. The eight-time All-Star stayed mostly healthy in 2019-20 as the Lakers won the NBA title, but he has struggled to stay on the floor since then, with the team failing to make the playoffs the past two seasons compete.
Davis has performed well on the court this season, playing 25 times and averaging 27.4 points, 12.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game.
However, Los Angeles has been unable to replace him. Thomas Bryant, Wenyen Gabriel and Damian Jones played extra minutes in the frontcourt in Davis’ absence, albeit in sharp declines.
