In a January update, Google brought native support for Spatial Audio to the Google Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7, and 7 Pro. This adds a directional filter to the sound and simulates a surround sound experience when listening to music or watching content from supported apps. Now, the latest update to the Google Pixel Buds app brings a hidden menu called “Spatial Audio.”
This menu is sponsored by 9to5Google and contains switches to enable spatial audio and head tracking. There is also a demo built into the app’s settings to preview the effect of enabling the feature. There is also a disclaimer at the bottom of the menu reminding you that this feature only works with supported content.
Google Pixel Buds should receive a firmware update that enables Spatial Audio. This could come in the next Pixel Buds Pro Feature Drop update, which should arrive sometime in March.
