Lenovo just unveiled two new ThinkPad workstations during SIGGRAPH 2022. The series includes the ThinkPad P15v and ThinkPad P14s, which are both laptops.
These new mobile workstations will feature some of the latest hardware from AMD and Nvidia, including AMD Ryzen Pro CPUs and Nvidia’s workstation RTX graphics.
Lenovo’s ThinkPad needs little introduction. The company continues to expand its workstation presence by adding workstations from time to time, and now, two new models are joining the lineup. Lenovo pitches the new versions to creators, touting them as more value-oriented than some of the high-end solutions it also offers. To bridge the gap between the entry-level and premium segments, the two new ThinkPads differ in specs and dimensions. The P14s is a smaller laptop, and according to Lenovo, it’s also the company’s lightest mobile workstation. With a 14-inch chassis and less than 3 pounds, it’s sure to be a slim portable. ThinkPad P14s can be configured with AMD Ryzen Pro U-series CPUs, including Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 options, with up to 8 cores and a maximum clock speed of 4.7GHz. However, it doesn’t come with a discrete GPU, so it might do better in less graphics-intensive workloads — but with an integrated Radeon card, it’s still good enough for many use cases. Moving on to the ThinkPad P15v, the bigger and better of the two siblings, with discrete graphics and a larger display. It weighs less than 5 pounds. It comes with a 15.6-inch display and a UHD maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160, although there is also a 1920 x 1080 FHD option. Both screens feature IPS panels for increased brightness and better color reproduction.
