Emmy Award-winning actor, director and educator LeVar Burton was announced a Lifetime Achievement Award at the inaugural Kids and Families Emmy Awards in December. 11 at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles. The awards will be presented by renowned Emmy and Tony Award winning actor, director, writer and producer Laurence Fishburne.
Burton Awarded best known for spreading the word about literary pleasures on Reading Rainbow, as host of the show for more than year. He is also closely related to his role as Geordi La Forge on the TV series Star Trek: The Next Generation. He won a 11 Emmy, three NAACP Awards, a Grammy Awards and a Peabody Award, to name just a few of his accolades. A noted author, Burton is the author of The Rhino Who Swallowed a Storm, A Kids Book About Imagination and
Aftermath, nominated for a Grammy Award. He also hosts the popular podcast LeVar Burton Reads, which features Fishburne as a guest.
In addition to the podcast conversations, Burton’s longstanding friendship with Fishburne has spawned many artistic collaborations, notably including 1977 TV reboot Roots, Executive produced by Burton, narrated by Fishburne (both won Emmys for their work on the series). Burton was one of the Emmy-nominated stars of the original 1977 series.
