Yes, The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) is working with Reza Fahim on the show and Levinson with A 03 for HBO. On top of that, he’s been involved in almost every other aspect of the series, as co-writer, executive producer, and star. This will be his first major role since his memorable appearance in
Uncut Gems.
Idol what is the plot?
The log line for the six-part series simply reads: “A self-help guru and leader of a modern cult rises up with a complex relationship A pop icon from the beginning.” It is speculated that Tesfaye will play the cult leader, while Depp will play the pop star.

The Weeknd recruits big names, rising stars, and real-world musicians. In addition to himself and Depp, there are pop stars Troy Sivan, Steve Chissis and Julibeth Gonzalez. TV On The Radio frontman Tunde Adebimpe will also be joined by Melanie Liburd, Maya Eshet, Tyson Ritter, Kate Lyn Sheil, Liz Caribel Sierra, Elizabeth Berkley, Nico Hiraga, Anne Heche and Finley Rose Slater. So far, there are two. In July , HBO has released a cryptic trailer for the new show – its hallucinatory visual style has euphoria shadow. In the opening scene, a choreographer has a group of dancers follow their pace, then the camera cuts to a frantic shot of someone dancing, popping champagne bottles, Depp and Tesfaye reclining on the back seat of the convertible , the music gradually formed a crescendo.
We also get to see the grand mansion; Depp practicing, then going through a strenuous routine; cocaine boards; cash being counted; Tesfaye sitting at the dinner table asking Depp: “Why don’t you Himself?” She frowned at him in response. “Because I have nothing to be relevant.” Cue the partying in neon-lit clubs, Tesfaye and Troye Sivan kicking ball on sun-drenched patios, and Tesfaye and Depp in the studio where the atmosphere turns hot. “Do you trust me?” he whispered, and she smiled. “Not really.”

Fans will have to wait another month to see the second segment coming up: In August
, HBO announced another segment, The clip features the catchphrase, “From the gutter of Hollywood comes a new HBO original series.” It features Depp’s Joslyn strutting through the record company’s offices, filming music videos, and taking a casual pump in the sauna. Smoke, then turns to her female companion and asks, “What’s the name of that club?” Cueing another party scene, flashes illuminate undulating bodies on the dance floor. It doesn’t reveal much, but expect lewd events in idols.

When will idol
come out?
Originally scheduled for release on
, the remake has set the series back, but how much is unclear. The trailer only revealed that the show will be “coming soon.”
What happened to the making of idol
?
The show has been filming four or five episodes – in leaked set photos, Lily-Rose The picture of Depp looking fantastic wearing a floral print halterneck two-piece, holding hands with The Weeknd – before things abruptly stopped. Amy Seimetz has stepped down as director, announcing that the series will change creative direction. According to unconfirmed reports from live sources, Tesfaye objected to the show’s “female perspective” through his co-star Lily-Rose Depp rather than his own. (Guess we know who the show’s real icon is supposed to be…) Depp stayed on board, but the show was redesigned and the cast and crew changed.
