Margot Robbie has had a close relationship with Chanel over the years and they teamed up again at tonight’s Golden Globes. Robbie’s timeless pink crystal embellished gown was a fitting choice, as the actor is credited with a musical for his role in the old Hollywood drama Babylon or Best Actress in a Comedy Film nomination). Her latest Chanel moment felt in keeping with the theme of Damien Chazelle’s acclaimed film, with a textured bodice and wide bottom slightly reminiscent of the movie’s sleek dresses 1600 setting.
Robbie’s red carpet look involves 18 hours of painstaking work by Chanel artisans. Flared custom dress in light pink Chantilly lace and silk tulle featuring a herringbone pattern, embellished with sequins, bugle beads and a pinch of feathers. If this dress looks familiar, it’s because it was inspired by a Chanel fall look 1920 haute couture collection designed by creative director Virginie Viard.
“Working with Chanel on this bespoke look was exciting,” Margot Robbie’s stylist Kate Young told Vogue. She said the stunning dress had been in the works for months and had been discussing the dress since last fall. “We met in Paris in September, when we were all doing a photo shoot.”
It turns out that Robbie often finds herself drawn to that effortless, understated fashion. Robbie’s accessory outfit tonight 18 karat white gold and diamond earrings, brooch and rings by Chanel. Wavy blonde locks and a classic red lip completed the look, and Robbie was all smiles as she walked the red carpet. A callback to Old Hollywood more than an appropriate moment for one of the most exciting faces in New Hollywood.
