Mark Hamill says Michael Keaton's Batman role encouraged him to audition for Joker

Mark Hamill as Joker Batman in : The animated series probably wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for Michael Keaton’s caped crusader.

The actor explained that the controversy surrounding Keaton’s casting and his eventual success made him feel more confident going into the audition than he would have otherwise.

Michael Keaton will be playing Batman ,” recalls Hamill. “‘Oh, he’s Mr. Mom, he’s a comedian.’ I mean they haven’t even met him, they don’t realize how great he’s going to be. But it’s controversial.”

He continued, “So, when I went in, I thought, ‘Do you think they’re going to hire Luke Skywalker to play the Joker? The fans are going to lose their minds! I’m very Sure I won’t be cast, I’m totally relaxed.”

Machine actor explained that there is often acting anxiety during auditions because actors want the roles they are reading about.

“Here I know I’m not going to get that part, so, who cares?” Best clown ever, it’s a pity they couldn’t cast me.'” Then, once he got the part, his attitude completely changed. “I was like, ‘Oh no, I can’t do that!'”

Hamill went on to say that the Joker is one of his favorite roles.

“He’s crazy, and because he’s crazy, he’s never bored,” he said. “It’s fun playing a character who causes chaos wherever he goes.”
