Martian landing? Yanks expected to call up Domínguez (source)
No. 8 prospect Austin Wells also getting the call
The Yankees are continuing their pivot toward the future, and their No. 2 prospect is next in line. Jasson Domínguez is expected to be called up for the start of the series against Houston on Friday, a source told MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch on Wednesday. The Yankees have not confirmed the news.
The 20-year-old outfielder nicknamed “The Martian” has had a solid season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, slashing .254/.367/.414 with 15 homers and 19 doubles. He is one of the more highly hyped international prospects in recent memory and was promoted from Single-A to Double-A last year at the age of 19.
The Yankees have already called up another highly touted outfield prospect in Everson Pereira, who is ranked No. 3 in the system. With the start of the series in Houston this weekend, the Yanks could potentially get a glimpse of their future outfield with Pereira in left and Domínguez in center.
Catcher Austin Wells is also expected to get the call this weekend, a source told MLB.com, though the Yankees have not confirmed. Wells was a first-round Draft pick in 2020 and is the club’s No. 8 prospect.
