McKinney good game to get the Yankees back on track
NEW YORK — The Yankees declared their dismal trip to the West Coast the “low point” of their 27 season and promised their next nine innings would show cleaner product. So far so good.
Billy McKinney hit a three-run homer and contributed two excellent catches in center field as the Yankees capped a four-game slide Friday night with a 5-4 victory over the Royals at Yankee Stadium to open their home court.
McKinney hit his fifth pitch of the season in the fourth inning Kansas City’s Alec Marsh also hit home runs to Franchy Cordero and Gleyber Torres in his fourth major league start.
The long ball helped support New York’s Clarke Schmidt, who allowed 3 runs and 5 hits in 5 2/3 innings for his sixth win of the season. Schmidt was also the winning pitcher in the Yankees’ most recent victory at Coors Field on Saturday.
