Instagram launched Threads in October as a standalone app for chatting with Instagram Close Friends, but since Meta launched its new Threads app last week as a Twitter competitor, the app is no longer available. It’s available in more than 500 countries, including the US and UK, but not in Europe. You can’t even use it over a VPN in Europe, as Meta has confirmed that it blocks users in European countries from using Threads over a VPN, resulting in profiles and content not loading and notifications not working.
“ Threads is currently unavailable in most European countries and we have taken further steps to prevent people in these countries from accessing Threads. Europe remains a very important Meta market, we hope to bring Threads to more countries in the future, ” said Meta.
Threads has attracted 23 million users within a week of its launch, and its expansion to European countries will only Increase this number. However, you likely won’t be able to download it on the Old Continent anytime soon, likely due to the upcoming Digital Market Act (DMA).
