The new York Mets overcame a disastrous playoff start on Friday to keep their 2022 campaign alive with a 7-3 win over the San Diego Padres on Saturday. Vitality, which resulted in a best-of-three-innings National League Wild Card Series in a single game.
Homers by Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso and two RBIs by Jeff McNeil Doubles make the offense quicker. On the mound, Jacob deGrom threw six two-pointers while striking out eight, while closer Edwin Diaz got five outs after starting off the bench.
Padres tie it with two outs in the ninth, but Seth Lugo on a full base Down sparked Josh Bell’s out to end the game.
New York entered Saturday in a haze after losing 7-1 the night before. Max Scherzer gave up seven runs en route with four homers in 4.1 innings.
Now both the Padres and Mets seasons are on with winners at Citi Field on Sunday night in New York Take all third game unanimously.
For now, Mets fans can know their season isn’t over after going through the dread that existed the night before. Just breathed a sigh of relief. The job’s certainly not done, but for the next 24 hours, New York could at least take a break (or as much rest as Mets fans have after years of heartbreak in September and October).

The bats in New York woke up. San Diego’s pitching faltered. The first game went to the Padres. The Mets continued the game in Game 2. There will be a win-or-home Game 3 on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET, with the winner facing Los Angeles in the NLDS. Chris Bassett and Joe Musgrove. Fasten your seat belts, kids.
