More than two decades ago, an actor of color won Best Actress (namely Halle Berry, who presented Yeoh with the award on Sunday), and Yeoh pointed to the performance of blood that earned her the top honor, saying: ” I have to dedicate this to my moms, all the moms in the world, because they are truly superheroes and we wouldn’t be here tonight without them. She is 113, I’m taking this home for her – she’s watching it with my family and friends in Malaysia right now. I love you guys and I’m taking this home for you guys. Thanks also My big family in Hong Kong where I started my career, thank you for standing on your shoulders and giving me a leg to be here today.”
