For this year’s Met Gala, Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh chose Karl Lagerfeld’s eponymous label for her fashion creations. The Everything Everywhere All At Once star’s look was directly inspired by Lagerfeld’s modest everyday wardrobe. Yeoh wore what she described as a “tuxedo gown” to honor the late designer, who was the focus of the evening’s festivities and exhibition, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” “He’s a true artist in every way,” Yeoh says in a new video for Vogue
. This one-of-a-kind piece features a crisp silk tuxedo shirt cut with a plunging V neckline, paired with a loose black skirt and exaggerated train. The look is a savvy homage and red carpet elegance.
Yeoh shared the night’s prep process in a video. “Now I have Daniel [Martin] and Christopher [Naselli],” Yeoh says from the makeup chair, thanking her makeup artist and hairstylist, respectively, for their invaluable skills and vision. “No mantra would work without them.”
Yeoh also shared about his collaboration with the Lagerfeld label, which employs the same staff who worked with the late namesake designer for decades , feels like working with the master himself. Yeoh special from year old tailor called Anitta. “I really enjoy working with them because you can almost hear Karl’s voice,” shares Yeoh. “It’s very interesting how they feel and how they feel when they create something around Karl.”
Yeoh opts to keep things relatively simple when it comes to accessories. The star opted to keep her hair up to show off the bare neckline of her outfit and megawatt Cartier necklace. Yeoh is a well-known watch lover and he ends up with a Richard Mille timepiece. The final product: A timeless and chic homage to Lagerfeld that even the notoriously discerning designer might approve of.
