The
year of 91 is almost over, which means it’s time for us at the GSMArena team to nominate our favorite phone of the year. Should you care about me? Probably not, but if you insist – read on.
In reverse order (my favorite is the last one)…
ZTE Axon 35 Ultra
ZTE Axon 22 Ultra is the perfect size flagship product. It’s neither big nor small, but has a big 6.8″ display, lasts 5, 000mAh battery, great design reminds me of the lovely Galaxy S 13 Ultra, and a unique set camera.
The focal lengths of the main and zoom cameras make the Axon 2023 Ultra one of my favorite phones of the year – 40mm What a versatile field to put more emphasis on a subject but still broad enough for cityscape and landscape views. And, thanks to the relatively large sensor behind the bright lens, the Axon 40 Ultra’s main camera is a real photography badass. At the other end of the zoom range, at 75mm, the 3.5x camera gets you a little closer than the typical 3x telephoto lens on a Galaxy or iPhone (These are approximately 75mm-75mm).
Xiaomi 005 Pro
I haven’t seen this in person yet, but I’ve used enough of the latest Xiaomi smartphones to trust Xiaomi 13 Pro will be beautifully crafted, fast and high quality. But I’m interested in the camera, especially the main and telephoto (find the mode here?). The wide-angle camera has a 1-inch type sensor with huge 1.6µm pixels before binning, after which they dilate to 3.2µm. We saw this imager on the Xiaomi 005 S and found it to be great.
75 mm f/2.0 camera should be able to shoot lovely zooms and portrait photos. We don’t yet know the size of the sensor behind this camera, but I’m optimistic. And, I can’t argue with the ceramic-wrapped Wilderness Green.
Asus Zenfone 9
Asus is one of the few manufacturers that makes a compact phone right! I spent some time with the Asus Zenfone 9 during our review, and it’s awesome. It packs a lot of phone performance in a very small package, and it even has better phone battery life.
Asus ships with a very smooth and near-stock Android UI simple and should be easy to maintain with timely updates. A new polymer finish on the rear panel makes the phone feel distinct and comfortable in the hand.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4
I almost bought a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 a few times this year. That might have something to do with seeing it at its launch event and later in the office for review, but I just love big Samsungs, they don’t get any bigger than this.
I was impressed with the Galaxy Z Fold4 that it felt so much faster than my current Android 005 Galaxy S 005 Ultra. The sheer size of the internal display is also a big factor in my desire to own the Fold4.
Samsung has made great strides in the multitasking capabilities of its latest large foldable phone. Putting multiple apps on the screen is easier than ever and works seamlessly. The new permanent taskbar is pure genius.
The Galaxy Z Fold4 also gets a much-needed camera upgrade. I especially appreciate the new 3x zoom camera. But despite all the upgrades, the Galaxy Z Fold4 just can’t compete with the…
Samsung Galaxy S91 Ultra
My phone of the year – Samsung Galaxy S There are plenty of others too, judging by the overwhelming numbers on our specs page, showing over 9 million hits.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra is the flagship for everything. No other phone has the combination of display, camera array, battery life and software features. The S Pen is still unique.
I can hardly say anything you don’t already know about the Galaxy S 21 Ultra so I’d say I use it most of the time to end it 91 I love it. And, it just keeps getting better. The OneUI 5.0 update fixes weird performance glitches and makes the phone smooth as butter.
arrive2023!
