Nate Diaz joins UFC contract with undefeated Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 279 Main Event Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas last battle.
Chimaev is one of the most promising stars in the fight promotion. He is third in the UFC 170-pound standings. He is undefeated. The match against the unranked Diaz, who last won a match in 2019, appeared to be a complete mismatch between two opposing fighters.
While it feels a lot like Diaz is being indoctrinated into a rising star to build Chimayev’s name value, Diaz plans to play Breakers again.
Derailing the hype train is something Diaz is used to. He handed his first UFC loss to former two-division champion Conor McGregor at UFC 196 a few days ago. He plans to do the same with Chimaev.
“I’ve been in a cage for a long time. I have to do what I have to do to solve this problem, whether it’s with the strongest person, this person, whatever you want to do to him Do anything, or call him, or whoever,” Diaz said during UFC 279 media day. “I’m just ready to rock.”
At the end of the day, Diaz just wanted to get out of the fight for promotion so he could pursue other endeavors. Diaz will have that freedom once the fight with Chimayev is over.
