BOSTON — Many of head coach Aaron Boone’s favorite childhood memories of his father happened within the walls of a major league club. The young man often wanders between Phillies lockers, eyeing sluggers Greg Luzinski or Mike Schmidt, or possibly working in the pantomime of his immaculate manager Danny Ozark trudging to the mound.
His father, Philly catcher Bob Boone — chest and shin guards — was nearby when he checked out the scouting reports for that night’s opponent’s lineup. Whether in the old Veterans Stadium or at the dinner table, baseball was the language most spoken between Boone, his father and his grandfather, former major leaguer Ray Boone.
