“When you only wear two pieces of clothing, they have to be at their best.” Nili Lotan’s understanding of minimalism is based on lived experience – around the same time minimalism first took fashion by storm. In time, she launched her own brand. As a result, she’s less interested in the performance of the aesthetic (quiet luxury, everything in camel, oversized coats and menswear trousers) and more in what makes a look alluring: “quality and comfort.” For the resort collection, Lotan expanded on the tone she had set for pre-fall— proportions and versatile essentials—with nothing but sophistication.
For Lotan, the key to creating a minimalist must-have wardrobe is the details. T-shirts in semi-sheer silk jersey are cut with high necks and are perfect for pairing with loose cashmere crewnecks and jersey tank tops; jeans are washed and soft to the touch, just like old favorites and worn; Detachable faux fur collar for an added but optional touch of luxury. The point, she said in a preview of her Meatpacking District store, is that all of these pieces fit together, but are special in their own right.
But Lotan does make some powerful statements here. First: Skinny jeans are back. say what? “We still have flared and loose fits, but skinny fits are coming back to balance the proportions.” You heard it here first.
