Detroit Red Wings from Ottawa Senators Acquired Alex DeBrinkat in exchange for forward Dominic Kubalik, guard Donovan Seblango, a conditional first-round pick and a 2024 fourth-round pick.

The contract is worth $7.875 million per year and will make Deblinka The highest-paid player on the Red Wings after King.

The trade was first reported by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman and NHL Network’s David Pagnotta Details of the contract.
Deblin Carter scored 66 points for the Ottawa Senators last season ( 27 goals, 39 assists). It marks a dip in his 41-goal offense for the Chicago Blackhawks in 2021-22, but the Red Wings may be hoping he bounces back on Larkin’s wing.

DeBrincat is entering his seventh NHL season. He spent five seasons with the Blackhawks before being traded to the Senators last summer.

Red Wings will say goodbye to Kubalik in the absence of Tyler Bertuzzi( Injured and then traded to the Boston Bruins), Kubalik spent most of last season on Larkin’s defense. Kubalik’s production and ice time, especially power plays, dipped in the second half of the season.

Also included in the trade is Seblango, who was between AHL and ECHL last season Assignment, in addition to a fourth-round pick and a conditional first-round pick in the 2024 draft.

Detroit now has two first-round picks for next year due to the Bertuzzi trade (its own and Boston). Under the terms of the Debrinkat deal, the Red Wings had the option to send the lesser of those two picks to Ottawa next year, but on one condition. If the Bruins end up with a top-10 pick, they’ll keep it, while the Red Wings will wait until 2025 to finalize the deal.

Losing 2024 if acquisition of Deblin Carter helps Red Wings survive playoffs A first-round pick in 2025 or 2025 is worth it for the Red Wings.

Despite promising first half of 2022-23 season, Detroit was already in the playoffs in February The Red Wings ended up missing the playoffs for the seventh straight time in part because of the team’s lack of a top 25 scorer in the NHL.

Larkin was the closest player he ever was last season, he got a career Highest 79 points (32 goals, 47 assists, 34th in the league).
The Red Wings are committed to building around Larkin, whose eight-year deal kicks off next season. They need to find him a teammate who can help him rank among the top scorers in the NHL. Debrinkarter, who helped his former Chicago teammate Patrick Kane score 92 points in 2021-22, could be that wing.
