Nicole Kidman will be returning to HBO.
Oscar Emmy winner to star and executive produce based on Leïla Slimani’s novel
The Perfect Nanny adaptation of the thriller. PEN15 Co-Creator Maya Erskine will also star, write and executive produce. HBO has partnered with Legendary Entertainment to outbid several other media outlets to develop The Perfect Nanny as a limited series.
Slimani’s novel, originally published in France as
Chanson Douce (Lullaby), is a thriller about the increasingly codependent relationship between a couple and their hired nanny. Yu won the famous French Goncourt Prize for Literature, and his translation became an international bestseller.
The log line for the HBO project reads: “A seemingly perfect nanny goes to work for a couple with two children, but her helpful personality eventually sours into something sinister.”
The Perfect Nanny will be Kidman’s successor to followed by a third HBO series, Big Little Lies (for which she won an Emmy as an actress and executive producer) and
The Undoing . She also starred in and produced Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers and Taylor Sheridan’s Lioness on Paramount+ and Expats on Amazon Prime Video. Meanwhile, Erskine is currently filming Mrs. and Mrs. Smith for Prime Video, where she stars opposite Donald Glover. , Pascal Caucheteux of Why Not Productions and Philippe Godeau of Pan-Européenne.
