It’s no secret that Olivia Rodrigo’s style is heavily influenced by the ’90s. The singer’s wardrobe is filled with grungy-cool pieces such as slip dresses, corsets, two-piece sets, and chunky combat boots—all staple items of the decade. But while she was spotted in London earlier this morning, Rodrigo incorporated another fashion era into her outfit. But don’t worry, she styled her ’80s rock tee in a totally ’90s way.
The band tee in question? Rodrigo repped Pat Benatar, the American rock singer famous for ’80s hits such as “Love Is a Battlefield” and “Hit Me With Your Best Shot.” Clearly, Rodrigo is a fan of her music, and she styled the merch with ’90s staples that nod to her signature style. The gray mini skirt, for one, made it feel youthful and fresh—as did the squared-toe Mary Jane flats, paired with white socks. If this were a true ’80s look, a leather moto jacket or chunky sneaker may have been involved, but leave it to Rodrigo to never stray from her vibe.
The question is: Will Rodrigo be drawing inspiration from the ’80s for her upcoming album? Perhaps the tee is hinting at a Benatar sample or cover that’s on the way. Or, at the very least, maybe we can expect some synthesizer and electronic drums.
