Netflix also shared a letter from Oda on Twitter in which he shared his excitement for the upcoming live-action series and his appreciation for the cast and crew bringing his manga series to the small screen.
“It’s been fun to see the range of reactions to each post,” he wrote in part. “The fact that a live-action adaptation of One Piece
was conceived seven years ago is insane in itself! … The whole process of so many people coming together is a celebration in itself.” They’ll come from a place of love, so I plan to enjoy the comments!” 1997
Created by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, the show stars McKenyue as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
Oda’s manga series was first published in 1997 and sold over 460 million copies worldwide. It has also been adapted into an anime series, a video game, and a series of feature films in Japan.
