Editors Shelly Westerman and Payton Koch talk about Hulu’s Only Murders In the Building Season 2 – Including Clip of “Killer Reveal Party” with Shirley MacLaine, Amy Schumer and next season’s victim Paul Rudd Waiting for guest star collaborations – in a new episode of the Behind the Scenes podcast of The Hollywood Reporter’s podcast. “It takes a twist,” Koch hints at what’s to come in season three.
In Season 2, Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez return as amateur sleuths with a new mystery to unravel—they The mystery surrounding the murder of Bonnie (Jayne Houdyshell), chairman of the board of directors at the apartment complex. This season, one of Arconia’s new residents is Amy Schumer, a fictional version of herself. “She’s wild,” Westerman said of the actress, revealing that she improvised more than most actors. “She’s going to break Steve and Marty.”
Paul Rudd plays actor Ben Glenroy, who meets with Steve Martin’s Charles exchanged some tense words. “They gave us some variation on different lines,” Westerman said of Rudd’s pivotal moment before taking the stage. “They basically had two sets of lines that they wanted to try. In those two sets, Steve and Paul gave us some tonal variations. Then we’d cut all of that and work with [showrunner John Hoffman], Pick the one he sees fit.”
Meryl Streep joins the cast for Season 3. “They had the best time on set,” Koch said. “It’s like a group of friends hanging out and having a good time. It’s beautiful to watch her deliver those lines. I mean, she’s Meryl Streep.”
On this episode of Behind the Screen, the editors also delved into the “killer revealed” killer who edited the season two finale. “It’s not just comedy. It’s drama; it’s little moments of creepiness,” Westerman said of the series. “You’ll get a taste of everything.”
