“I think it’s a win for the Academy,” an Academy Award recipient the previous year told Hollywood Reporter .
A year ago, eight categories — Editing, make-up and hairstyling, production design, soundtrack, sound, animated shorts, documentary shorts and live-action shorts – presented an hour before live TV, with clumsily edited excerpts played during the broadcast, in a move that disrespected the principles of filmmaking These branches have been widely criticized.
“Last night I was proud to be a member of the Academy,” said one of last season’s nominees, whose category was relegated to the off-site portion of the presentation. All the categories this year are broadcast live, and a QR code is attached to the live broadcast, and viewers at home can scan it with their mobile phones to learn more about craft categories.
“I thought this year was the best of the last few,” said a past Oscar winner who watched an edited version of his category televised last season . “I like the QR code of the category, the tribute to Warner and Disney, the shorter song sections and the general sense of respect around it. All in all, I think it’s a win for the Academy.”

“Do we have to keep cutting off acceptance speeches for VFX winners?” asked a VFX chapter member. “I guess we should be thankful they didn’t use themes to Jaws
as a hook.”
A member of the sound department admitted he was “disappointed” with the presentation of the sound category (three years ago, the branch The agency has combined its two awards (sound editing and sound mixing) into one sound award, honoring production sound, sound editing and re-recording). “The script only mentioned sound effects,” the source said. “Leaving it to writers who rarely work on set, or even in the cutting room, to misinterpret the work of all three disciplines.”
“There’s definitely work to be done, but the Academy is trying to do to the right,” concluded another Faculty member of the editorial department. “I am also very happy for Michelle Yeoh. History is made!”
