Oscars: The Sound Competition (Really) Mixes It Up

Films shortlisted for Best Sound Effects include Animated Feature, Documentary, International Feature, Musical and Pillar.

In the Oscar race for sound, This year is going to be a particularly interesting year. The sound branch revived its shortlist and roast a year ago (a year after combining sound editing and sound mixing into one category), and this season it narrowed down the Oscars to a mesmerizingly diverse shortlist Movie.

It is worth noting that the shortlist includes both international and documentary features: Germany’s

This year’s shortlist also includes Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio , Frontrunner in the Animated Feature Competition (the film was also shortlisted for Alexandre Desplat’s score and original song “Ciao Papa”). Animated feature films have a unique challenge: they don’t have sound produced, which means everything has to be created. Since the turn of the century, Pixar’s Incredibles has earned sound in , while six other animations have also been nominated, recently A soul of 2020.

This season’s sound shortlist is made up of pillars Avatar: The Way of Water , Batman, Black Panther: Forever Wakanda and Top Gun: Mavericks
