Padres' Blake Snell can start vs Nationals after crash with DUI suspect

) San Diego Padres pitcher Blake Snell has been cleared to start a game against the Washington Nationals just after he was with a suspected drunk driver The night after a car accident.

Snell’s vehicle was in State 5 an hour after San Diego’s 3-1 loss to Washington on Thursday night, ESPN reported. A traffic stop on an interstate highway was hit.

Snell was stopped by San Diego police on suspicion of a traffic violation, but did not specify why his vehicle was stopped. Passengers in Snell’s car at the time of the accident were assessed after complaining of pain but were released without hospitalisation. After the crash, the driver of the other vehicle was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Snell was assessed by the Padres before the medical team was allowed to take the mound before Friday’s game. “Physically, he’s fine,” manager Bob Melvin said before Friday’s game . “But it’s going to shake you a little bit. But our guys checked him out today. We’ve talked to him. He’s ready to pitch. So I think we might be lucky.”

Snell starts Friday with a 5-6 record and a 3.66 ERA in 15 games this season. He was put on the injured list earlier this season after experiencing a tight left adductor.

The Padres are looking to get back on track after a loss in four of their last six games. San Diego is one game behind the Philadelphia Phillies in contention for the National League’s second wild-card spot heading into Friday.
