Coral played only the second and fourth quarters of Friday’s game, alternating with third-year backup PJ Walker conduct. The rookie went 9-for-15 for 58 yards as the Panthers offense struggled to form a rhythm against the Patriots. Ruhl’s decision to limit Coral to two-quarters of the game drew some criticism from fans on social media.
Miss third-round pick, Coral seen as Carolina’s prospective quarterback . He made a quiet preseason debut against the Washington Commanders last week, going 1-for-9 for 11 yards. It appears his development is not a priority for the team this offseason. The Panthers are having a quarterback game between Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, Both of them rested Friday night after spending most of their joint practice with New England. Mayfield started the game against Washington while Darnold scored a touchdown. It’s unclear which quarterback Rhule is leaning toward. The decision to start this season will be crucial as Rhule is undoubtedly in the hot seat . He’s 10-23 overall in his first two seasons as head coach, so the Panthers are definitely looking to get even better in 2022.
