Paramount+’s Criminal Minds update is adding to its cast and title.
The series features actor Zach Guilford ( Friday Night Lights, Midnight Mass ) plays a key recurring role. A subtitle of the long-running CBS crime drama has also been added, titled Criminal Minds: Evolution .
Paramount+ has placed a series order for the July revival. The show’s six longtime cast members — Joe Mantegna, Kirsten Vancenes, Adam Rodriguez, AJ Cook, Aisha Taylor and Paget Brewster — — and showrunner Erica Messer joined Evolution, while former regulars Matthew Gray Gubler and Daniel Henney won’t be returning.
Unlike CBS predecessor, where most cases are resolved at the end of the episode, Criminal Minds: Evolution serialized. According to the show’s plot, “The FBI’s elite crime profiling team encounters their greatest threat yet, an UnSub who is using the pandemic to build a network of other serial killers. As the world reopens and the network goes into operation, the team must hunt them down, a murder .”
Gilford will complete a season as Elias Voit, an analyst at a cybersecurity firm with a dark side and an obsession with death.
Gilford will appear in Netflix’s The Fall of the House of Usher from Midnight Mass by Mike Flanagan. His recent credits also include Flanagan and Netflix’s The Midnight Club , NBC’s Good Girls and Spectrum’s LA’s Finest .
Messer will host Criminal Minds: Evolution . She executive produces alongside fellow writers Bryn Fraser and Christopher Barber, and directors Glen Kershaw and Mark Gordon. Produced by ABC Signature and CBS Studios.
