Fantastic Years welcomes a musical icon to its cast.
Patti LaBelle will guest star in the second season of the ABC comedy, playing Bill Williams’ (Dulé Hill) mother. She’s currently signed on for two episodes.
Her character Shirley Williams is the choir conductor of her church. “Mama Williams” is as sweet as possible, but she also has a flip side when the chorus members don’t quite hit the right note.
Season 2 of The Wonder Years will continue to follow Dean Williams (Elisha “EJ” Williams) growing up in Alaba Montgomery, MA, in the late era. The series, which premieres mid-season, won a Peabody Award for its first season, while producer Saladin K. Patterson was nominated for a Writers Guild Award for his pilot script.
The show’s regular cast also includes Saycon Sengbloh, Laura Kariuki, Julian Lerner, Amari O’Neil and Milan Ray. Don Cheadle narrates The Wonder Years as an adult dean.
LaBelle, two-time Grammy winner and inductee to the Grammy Hall of Fame “Lady Marmalade,” will next appear in Lifetime’s holiday movie NEW Orleans Noel . Her other recent performance credits include CBS The Neighborhood , Fox Star and OWN Greenleaf . LaBelle is also a best-selling author and founder of Patti’s Good Life food/lifestyle brand, featured by WME and Edwards Entertainment.
