Have Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner and Selena Gomez been Googling “French girl style” “? Lately, I’ve noticed that celebrities on a trip to Paris dress in an almost parody of the city’s aesthetic—or at least a stereotype of it. No, they’re not wearing berets and Breton stripes yet, but when Kylie heads to Paris in May, her new minimalist and undeniably chic wardrobe is making headlines. The reality TV star-turned-beauty mogul wears a collection of black and white looks from a range of brands that would make for a style guide of quiet luxury: Alaïa, Bottega Veneta, The Row, Ferragamo. she looks good!

But then Selena Gomez appeared in front of the paparazzi with what appeared to be two looks from France on Pinterest Plagiarized from the girl’s aesthetic page. First up, gorgeous black trousers, a black sleeveless turtleneck with a little black sweater tied around the shoulders, a black cloth headband (very Brigitte Bardot-esque), and black sunglasses. She reappeared a few days later, wearing a lace-up black trench coat and Mary Jane pumps. Bien sûr. Finally, Kendall was spotted in Paris wearing a slim, flared cream minidress, black point-toe pumps, a brown Hermès bag, and — with me — a cloth headband and sunglasses combo that was almost identical to Selena’s. It’s better than what Emily Cooper did on Emily in Paris A little more subtle, but it’s still full of ego—Americans especially see the French as a sense of elegance.
