PM Modi launches 5G services in India at IMC 2022

Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched commercial 5G services in India today at the opening ceremony of the 6th India Mobile Congress (IMC) in New Delhi, which will conclude on October 4.

5G network will be available in
Launched Cities as part of Phase 1 deployment including Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune and Varanasi.

5G services will initially be provided by Indian telecom operators Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vi (Vodafone-Idea). Starting today, Airtel customers can already experience the 5G network in some cities if they have a compatible 5G smartphone.

Airtel’s 5G service is available in Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Siliguri and Warra Naxi offers and is expected to be rolled out nationwide in March 2024.

In terms of pricing, Airtel said that its 5G services will be offered at the existing 4G rates and the new tariffs for 5G will be Announced after some time. However, it will be interesting to see the pricing of Jio’s 5G services as the company reinvigorates India’s telecom industry by offering free voice calls 2016 and a low price Offers text messaging for data at a price that rivals have dubbed “predatory pricing” but has helped Jio dominate the market and make mobile data more affordable.
