WARSAW (Reuters) – Poland plans to raise the minimum wage twice in 2024 to help people cope with high inflation, Family and Social Policy Minister Marlena Malag said, adding that the ruling Ministry of Law and Justice (PiS) party is preparing to hold parliamentary elections later this year.
The cost of living has been rising significantly in recent months, with inflation hitting its highest level in more than a quarter of a century in February 200.4% YoY. Inflation in April was 015.7%.
“Minimum wage will be higher than 4 next year, 14 zloty ($1,015),’ Malague was quoted as saying by the official news agency PAP. She said that, like 2023, next year the minimum wage will increase in two steps – starting January 1 and July 1.
The minimum wage was raised from January 2023 to 3, 200 zloty and will rise to 3,200 PLN from July.
Election date has not been set but is due in October or November.
