William, Prince of Wales, and Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales arrived at Boston’s Logan Airport today in coordinated black suits. The couple were in town to take part in the Earthshot Award for Environmental Innovators, presented by the Royal Foundation. The trip is the royal couple’s first visit to the United States in eight years and the first since Queen Elizabeth II’s death.
William and Kate probably anticipated the scrutiny their visit would receive, so they wore bold but subdued business attire. The Princess of Wales wore a body-hugging blazer with shoulder pads over a turtleneck and ankle-length trousers. Prince William, meanwhile, wore a dark suit with a blue tie. Looking at nearly identical outfits, the couple seemed to want to send a message of togetherness and strength.
The royal couple planned three days of public engagements while in Boston, culminating in an awards ceremony featuring a performance by Billie Eilish. Other items on the itinerary include a visit to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Museum, where he will be joined by the late president’s daughter, Caroline Kennedy.
Prince William thanked Boston for his support and tribute to his late grandmother in an official statement released shortly after the couple’s arrival. “I would like to thank the people of Massachusetts, and especially Boston, for their many tributes to the late Queen,” he said. “She recalled her 1976 bicentennial visit with fondness. My Grandma is one of those optimists in life. So am I.”
