As the sun dipped quietly into the sparkling Mediterranean, the sound of stiletto shoes on the gravel was clearly heard, echoing down the promenade of the Cape Eden Hotel. amfAR’s harbor is filled with lumbering yachts (most notably James Parker’s 108 meter Azimut Benetti, rumored to be hosting Leonardo DiCaprio Leo), surrounded by twisting Aleppo pine trees, with a wide view The Cannes Gala unfolded in the expected and exciting way.
While the fundraising galas are held year-round in Palm Beach, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Venice, this celebration follows Cannes and possibly amfAR’s Super Bowl for the looking Ways to Cure HIV and AIDS to raise funds and awareness. Last night, a whopping $17 million dollars was raised, naturally starting with the cocktails, during which the evening’s sponsors – Chopard, Aston Martin and Red Sea International Film Festival – showcased their wares in an art auction later in the evening.
