Rag & Bone Fall 2023 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Flip through a Rag & Bone lookbook from a few years ago and you’ll see studio shots and interiors in the form of hotel rooms, clubs and the company’s West13 Street headquarters The set. Straightforward, this one looks different — and right.

Brand founder Marcus Wainwright has long spoken out about real-life New York women who are both Rag & Bone’s inspiration and end user. She’s finally here in the Financial District The kind of girl you can’t help noticing on the street. Here’s the subtle stuff: the stand-up collar of a neat wool blazer, the black belt cluttered at the waist of another jacket, the juxtaposition of surprising tailoring and authentic-looking cargo pants. In another photo, she wore a shrunken leather biker jacket over her blazer. It might have been an impulsive, hasty decision after a quick glance at her iPhone’s weather app, but it’s the kind of thing that makes her friends and foes alike ask themselves, why don’t I think about it? There was a larger biker jacket in the mix, and a nice shearling bomber. Coats will remain New Yorkers’ most important asset, and even if our winters have been snow-free, it’s still a walking city.

A word about those overalls. Wainwright collects old military leftovers, so he’s particular about the weight and texture of the materials he uses at Rag & Bone. The fabric for these pants is sourced from Japan, which is close to old-school army surplus.
