Rams QB Baker Mayfield expected to be active, has real chance to play Thursday vs. Raiders

Baker Mayfield could play in Los Angeles on Thursday after being released in Charlotte on Monday.

According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelicero, the quarterback is expected to play tonight against the Raiders, and according to sources, he does have Chance plays.

Head coach Sean McVeigh told reporters on Wednesday that he was “working to sort out” Mayfield’s form entering the game after the former world number one. The No. 1 pick arrived in Los Angeles on Tuesday night and participated in Wednesday’s practice.

According to Pelissero, Mayfield is speeding up the game plan and his role will depend in part on how John Wolford feels during the game battling a neck injury.

If Mayfield does pull off a surprisingly quick turnaround to play in any capacity for the Rams, he’ll be the fourth quarterback to make a move in McVay’s offense this year .

None of the first three are particularly efficient. Matthew Stafford helped the Rams past the Super Bowl in 2021 after being traded from Detroit, passing for 2,087 yards, 10 touchdowns and eight TDs in nine games this season The interceptor, was on injured reserve Saturday with a spinal contusion.

Wolford, winless in two starts, has a 61.3 completion percentage, 390 passing yards, 1 TD and 3 INTs. Bryce Perkins also got a start, completing 13 of 23 passes for 100 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions in a 26-10 Week 12 loss to Kansas City.

Time will tell if Mayfield sees the field and can provide the spark Los Angeles was hoping for by claiming him.

The Rams and Raiders will play Thursday at 8:15 p.m. ET.
