Reem Acra has been in business since the 90 years and she still keeps it up to date. This season, she set her sights on a muse who was back in the news — Barbie, the subject of Greta Gerwig’s latest movie — and created a resort collection using only shades of pink. “We wanted to make a collection that was in tune with what was going on in the world. It was a bridge between modern and classic,” says Acra.
Acra’s current client base includes a large number of VIPs, including first ladies and royals. But in 2023, she’s also trying to show a younger audience the world of eveningwear. She’s been launching a capsule collection of “sexier styles” at lower prices, including two-piece sets, and has also started incorporating youthful looks into her main collection alongside her best-selling styles. While loyal fans of Acra might opt for gowns in her traditional cotton-piqué fabric for drama and style, new fans of the brand might gravitate toward a sheer tulle look with low-back detailing. Either way, the world of eveningwear has become more accessible to the next generation thanks to Acra, and even easier to buy starting today, as she launches an e-commerce site for the first time in the brand’s history.
