With the MLB winter meeting set to begin Sunday, the Yankees are hoping to seal a new deal with star outfielder Aaron Judge early as other contenders battle for the 2022 American League MVP.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported Wednesday that the Yankees have offered Judge an eight-year, $300 million contract. New York could potentially up their offer depending on their competition for the four-time All-Star. The current offer would pay Judge about $37.5 million per season on average. Judge previously rejected a seven-year, $30.5 million annual contract extension from the Yankees.
In addition to the Yankees, the Giants and Dodgers are also spending money for Judge. Per Passan, Judge is set to land a record-breaking contract that would exceed the highest average annual salary for a position player. That honor currently belongs to Mike Trout and is worth $35.5 million.
