Ring, an Amazon-owned home security company that will sell you a camera just as quickly as it can give law enforcement access to footage from the same camera without a warrant, is making a listening It looks like the TV show invited to attend is being monitored. You know, as a fun family activity.
Deadline Reported that Wanda Sykes has signed on to host Ring Nation , a new America’s funniest home video style clip from MGM Television, Ring and Big Fish Entertainment, The production company behind Live PD is described in a press release as “an everyday dose of life’s unpredictable, heartwarming and hilarious viral videos”, Ring Nation will present footage shot on People’s Ring cameras in a fun way.
“Bringing new communities together is our core Ring mission, and Ring Nation provides a fun new way for friends and family to enjoy each other’s time,” Jamie Simi, Ring founder and executive producer of Ring Nation Nove said in a press release. “We are delighted that Wanda Sykes is joining Ring Nation to share people’s unforgettable moments with the audience.”
As Deadline pointed out that Ring Nation is a fairly transparent corporate synergy for Amazon, which has MGM Television, Big Fish and Ring, and (obviously) have a vested interest in encouraging more people to outfit their homes with Ring technology. There are almost certainly ring owners out there interested in attending Ring Country and would jump at the chance to have Wanda Sykes comment on anything fascinating footage they captured at home.
But as one of Ring’s most covert attempts to regulate the idea and practice of people constantly monitoring each other, Ring Nation may also just be a reminder to some of the need to avoid that particular instance of our modern panorama prison.
Ring Nation will co-premier on September 26.
